MINING

Although it could be argued that "Mining" should fall under "Economy," I believe it such an important aspect of Jumpgate(tm) that it deserved its own first-level brainstorm area.

Areas to consider for development ideas:

Mining Ships

Mining Lasers

Mining ModX (or other "accessories")

Asteroids

  • Yield
  • Cooling time
  • Density & Homogeneity
  • Pures

Comets


  • Large moving bodies which can be mined for high-value minerals and ice. Comets would travel from sector to sector in a ramdom pattern until they are either mined-out or destroyed.
  • There will always be {10} Comets in the JGE universe. When one is mined-out or destroyed, another randomlyu spawns.
  • Comets would have much higher extraction rates than rockeir roids but would be more challenging to mine since they are moving.
  • Comet tails could also be "scooped" for similar minerals at lower yields.
  • When a comet impacts a ship at greater than x velocity, ship is destroyed. When a Comet impacts a POS, Factory/Building or Station, the comet is detroyed (resulting in a "sprinkling" of pure roids through the sector and the structure it hits is damaged (i.e. some or significant funtionality is impacted).

Independent Mining Guild (IMG) Station


IMG would be like a non-playable faction, though it would be an occupational rather than nationalistic faction.

  • Station is literally carved out of a huge asteroid and is located near rich mining fields.
  • Located out beyond the Edge with a Market and Factory for specialty mining gear.
  • Independently-produced hulls for leading-edge mining ships.
  • Ore can be sold to the market, refined or (perhaps) stored at the station.
  • Station would have specialized mining and ore hauling mission computer; and import missions (technology components for productio of specialty minig gear and hulls and life support needs like ood, water, etc.).
  • Station would also be the site for IMG Missions (think FMs) for building certain kinds of mining assets (Ore Depots and such).
  • IMG would have its own pilot PR and access to the station, hulls and mining gear would require appropriate IMG PR.

Planetoids


  • Located only in high risk/reward areas (i.e. unreg) and generally well outside the spacelanes.
  • VERY large asteroids (even by JGE standards) that are composed of a variey of ores as well as veins of pure base commodity.These would be station-sized bodies with a labyrinth of caves. Maneuvering would be tight and getting a little lost very possible.
  • Typically riddled with caves. Non-common and Pure veins are generally found in the caves and are not unlimited — i.e. a vein typically yields 20 - 50 units and then "respawns" at a different location on/in the megaroid. (To me, this — in conjunction with comet-generated pures — could effectively replace the current randomly-spawned pure roids.)
  • Caves can be inhabited by the "Rockworm" — a nasty little AI.
