| Race of the Pilgrims Results and Background by Elpirata The idea for this race came from both personal JG experiences with teammates and the movie Wing Commander, as well as Rally Racing. SKS made a lot of references on how he did found artifacts in sector (which honestly I didn't understand much) while following a pattern search. He was also one of our 'go-to' guys whenever we wanted to make sure a pattern had good coverage and sometimes we even had him in charge or custom making patterns for the squad. Later, while I was arti hunting myself, I came to understand what he meant, and basically we had a way to roll our ships so that the gates and other in-space objects were away from the spawning points of artifacts. It combined with the movie with the Pilgrims, which basically had a natural born instinct of navigation, and could use their skills to navigate around places where only normal folks would with their ship's onboard computers. Add to all this the fact that I like Rally Racing and I started to think of ways on how to put this all together. While I was in OEC, in beta, one night our XO (back then JaGaR) I have no idea how he managed to do it, but he was without a working radar, and as he couldn't see a thing around, I was ordered to serve as his 'guide' to the nearest TRI station. I'm sure it wasn't a pleasant thing for him, but to me.. it was nice After these tests... I kept researching ways to make it fun and make it so that it would go as a rally race in which pilots launch at fixed time intervals, this to avoid the next pilot to see the engine trails of the one before him. It finally took form, the prizes were negotiated with our Events GM (GM_Khronos) and after 10 days of KTRI announcements... The Race of the Pilgrims was on. It was set a grand prize for the best overall time, thus allowing folks more chances to win if they did better.
