Khronos' Korner TRI to Take a "Back Seat" One of the biggest hurdles for me to overcome as Istvans warfare changes move along, is TRI itself. In its current form, TRI is a quasi-government entity sort of an alliance between the three major factions yet, TRI has no true power. The pilots who sign up through TRI belong first and foremost to their factions, leaving TRI with no standing army, or muscle to enforce its decisions. TRIs current cant we all get along UN style of operation just wont fit into the warfare paradigm (just I really just use that word?) of Oct/Sol/Quant pilots shooting each other for their factions honor. There are also more than a few holes surrounding other aspects of TRI/pilot interaction for instance, pirate tags if TRI is oh so powerful, why wouldnt they just pull the plug on a pirate, and revoke their flight rights the moment they docked? (Answer: Customer service trumps backstory). So, with that in mind, welcome to the brave new TRI. My vision for TRI is to turn it away from the UN of Jumpgate, and into nothing more than a corporation. A corporation that owns a well guarded monopoly on the Jumpgate tech (genetic mods, Jumpgate building etc), as well as retaining official ownership of the buildings in unregulated space. Thats about it. In todays world, the factions are somewhat subordinate to TRI; in the brave new world, TRI would be nothing more than a subcontractor to the factions. There are still game mechanics in place, of course, that preclude this happening immediately, but as code changes get implemented and released, Ill be taking every opportunity to nudge TRI closer towards that final vision. But what of the multifactional TRI supporting squads? This is where, I believe, Jumpgates corporations can play a much larger role than they do right now. My intent is for the corporations to pick up some of the slack that will be released as TRI continues its downward spiral to rebirth. We have sufficient corporations, that some of them will be interested in supporting conflux eradication, sector exploration, etc. This, I believe, provides more opportunities for conflict (not all at gun point), as corporations, freed from the control of TRI, begin to squabble more over market share, making pilots key elements in their plotting and scheming. In such an environment, the entrepreneurial spirit should thrive, even providing off duty combat pilots the chance to make a few extra credits, while they wait for their next set of orders.
