Tempers Flare ![]() Over Duelist Gambit On 107.4.10, pilot Me_1 announced that he had removed all Duelist targeting computers from publicly-accessible stations as part of a protest against current economic conditions. Me_1s protest appeared to be targeted at TRI, even though TRIs charter expired and its current influence on the economy is negligible. Me_1 allegedly had unnamed accomplices in the protest, but they were never named. During the course of the protest, the Bullseye inventory also disappeared from public markets. Pilot Me_1 has contended that he was not responsible for their removal. While many pilots tried to reason with Me_1 many others vowed to let their guns do their speaking. On 107.4.27 Me_1 finally agreed not pursue his "protest" further. Two weeks later -- one month from the initiation of the protest -- approximately 700 Duelists were returned to the public market. In the aftermath, emotions continue to run high and retribution threats have continued. An independent psychological analysis of Me_1s original complaint and subsequent behavior patterns indicated that he may be suffering from a unique version of Whynars Syndrome, or alternatively, may be the result of an imperfect genetic alteration procedure, resulting in minor brain damage with each jump he makes. The positive outcome of the protest is a currently-generous supply of the popular targeting computers, with over 7,000 now available on public markets. A number of pilots combated the Me_1 protest by amassing the rare commodities needed to producer this equipment and depositing them at Great Pillars station where they could be most efficiently used.
Several of the attacks have focused on Cornea Station sector, where the Sabre nuclear missile production facility is currently being rebuilt. With all other nuke factories having been destroyed, the partially-built Sabre facility is a critical link in the ability to fight off Conflux incursions. Other attacks have focused on Hyperial where the Insight and Burglar are manufactured both critical to pilots ability to harvest the Conflux Biomass used to produce nuclear missiles. Other attacks have targeted the Plutonium factory in Oct Core and the RB-4 manufacturing facilities in Quantar Core and Oct Core. In another instance Conflux "suicide runs" against Cornea station resulted in the destruction of approximately 500 units of Aluminum when outer bulkheads were breached Aluminum that was being used to reconstruct the Sabre facility. While conflux attacks in the past have often been based on brute force and general disruption, the recent incursions have shown a disturbing amount of detailed strategy with precise surgical strikes aided by tactics that misdirect, separate and isolate defense forces. On pilot commented, "These things were always fast and powerful. Now theyre getting smart. It sucks!"
There has been little new news in over a month, since G. Marcian, former OPL CEO, escaped from custody. Marcian was being held for the murder of TRINN Zoe Vexel, who had been investigating Hyperian atrocities. This came on the heels of the arrest of the arrest OPL management team after it was discovered that they had intentionally delayed the return-to-production of the Injustice laser. Octavian sources indicated that the OPL management group was negotiating with a Solrain investor to sell rights to the technology. Marcian escaped from Octavian custody when a Conflux attack on Oct Core disrupted a prisoner transfer. Marcian has been found guilty in absentia and sentenced to death. Octavian officials have threatened that anyone assisting or harboring Marcian in any way will be considered an accomplice with dire repercussions. For now, OPL remains under a military management team led by Legate Triarius.Click HERE for a sidebar story: "Remarkable Connections"
Recent allegations that Zoe Vexel was murdered at the direction
of OPL senior management could inflame the situation once again if Hyperial is somehow
implicated. News that OPL had obtained live virus cultures, patient blood and DNA samples,
and prototype vaccines from laboratories on Hypsos indicated such a link.

It appears that rumors of the rodent coup at JPR may be TRUE.

IMO In The UnSentient, Newtron showed us a backstory that could have been created to explain and "justify" the Balrog style of play which was, to say the least, controversial. While in my experience, many pilots who play for PvP (and more so those who play "bad guys") are not interested in RP, I think its unfortunate. I wonder, if a Criminal/Pirate squad took a little bit of time to create the kind of backstory and RP-framework that was suggested in The UnSentient, whether that squads nefarious activity would be better "accepted?"

Betrayal Arouin waited until the footsteps had faded a little, then quietly stepped out from the shadowed doorway. The green robes on the backs of the Inquisitors shook about as they ran away from him, towards the center of the facility. Arouin walked after them carefully, alert incase they doubled back, and began to reload his weapons, dropping the empty clips onto the floor where they clattered for a second before lying still. After the reloading was complete, and the sounds of screams and gunfire echoed down the corridor ahead, he put one of his large-calibre pistols in each hand, made sure that the safetys were off, and then picked up the pace to a light jog. He passed through the doors where the bodies of the last guards he had killed lay, then followed the winding of the corridor around, avoiding pools of blood from slumped and groaning guards. It looked like they were trying to use non-lethal force; they were aiming for the limbs instead of the head or chest of the hapless guardsmen. |
