This is the History of the 2nd GVB War as told by Brother_Io during GrimGriz's Blue GVB event prior to the blessing ceremony that was interrupted by the Hyperial terrorist Nelson's failed nuclear attack.
It is interesting that the day that many younger pilots learned the history of the 2nd GVB War for the first time was also the day that sparked yet another conflict over the same region. Let us pray that Hyperial comes to its senses and ceases hostilities before this current struggle grows into a Third Jihad al Din.
These words were transcripted from recordings of f3 channel that night. The history is obviously told from a Quantar perspective.
Brother Io while in space wrote:
It was over 30 years ago that our strife with Hyperial began. But it didn't reach its bloodiest until 14 or so years after. All over the simple Sector of Great Venure Belt...
Quantar claimed historical ownership of this very sector, citing many ancient records of the first Jihad al Din. Hyperial, however, said they saw this as an attempt of Quantar to separate the borders of Hyperial from the rest of the Galaxy.
It was 18 years ago that Quatnar then began to build a Trade Depot within this sector to promote greater trade between Solrain, Hyperial, and Quantar. It was our people's greatest hope that this would smooth the sharp and jagged Hyperial words of how Quantar was pushing them to War. It was mere months from completion...when Hyperial struck without warning.
They stormed GVB sector to the surprise of all, their modified and twisted versions of factional ships ripping through the nearly complete Trade Depot. Quantar could not resist this attack as the Hyperial ships overtook the station and all the workers were trapped with it.
However, in those days it took years to build a fleet capable of facing the increasing incursions of Hyperial Invaders. And during these years, they began modifying the captured station...turning it into a Battle Station from which they could stage deeper attacks into our Territory.
But Quantar had an answer for them. Over the years Quantar resisted and kept hidden the vast Battle Fleet that would soon descend once more upon this Sector. It was 86.10.28 AT that Hyperial got their answer...when the massed Quantar Warships entered once more the Sacred Territory of GVB.
The battle was hard within this sector, and Hyperial attempted to abandon the rebuilt station. However, Intelligence knew that they were also holding countless captured Quantar warriors within the station. Just as we were preparing to liberate the station...our greatest fear was realized.
The station errupted in Flame and Horror. The Hyperials self destructed the station, along with all of the Quantar war prisoners.
As the Hyperial transports continued to stream into Main Gate, the Quantar Fleet followed to engage. The order was given to leave no Hyperial ship left.
The Fleet then entered Main Gate...and the Mother of all Battles began and ended there in a single day. The lives lost were countless on each side, but in the end the Hyperial Fleet was no more...and Hyperial was forced to surrender.
The wreckage, however, remains and shall never be moved from its sacred position among the stars. It stands as a monument to all of those who lost their lives, Quantar and Hyperial. The fallen Quantar warriors are with Hamalzah in his Grace, and we shall not soon forget their sacrifice.
A close look at the chronology Io gave us puts the start of the conflict with Hyperial at 73 AT. This also happens to coincide with the first single pilot jump capable ships being introduced by TRI. Hyperial had refused TRI membership in 40 AT. Hyperial used modified TRI factional ships to construct their fleet which they aparently had captured and reverse engineered.
The Quantar GVB Trade Depot began construction in early 85 AT. It was captured by Hyperial forces and converted to a military base and POW prison. Over the next nearly two years, Quantar forces were fighting a holding effort and secretly constructing the huge Fleet Brother Io tells us about. This Fleet liberated GVB and destroyed the entire Hyperial fleet in retaliation for their destruction of the station holding the POWs, thus ending the Second Jihad al Din in a single day, 86.10.28. Countless lives were lost on both sides.
It was not until after the perfection of escape pod technology that TRI began limited open recruitment of pilots from the civilian population during 99.5 AT, and not unitl 101.7 did TRI begin its massive recruitment period.
Prior to this time, all fleet actions described above were carried out only by factional military conscripts who faced death when their ships were destroyed. Facing the inability to ever return planetside, and certain death in space after a single ship loss, not many from any faction's military volunteered for the space fleets.
The escape pods have put an end to meaningful space warfare which is why the factional governments no longer have massive military space fleets and prefer to use the civilian pilots of TRI to do their bidding in space. And the citizens of TRI now volunteer in droves to become TRI pilots because a single ship loss does not mean instant death and the rewards for flying as a member of the Reconstruction are great indeed. Many pilots are able to assist their families back home with thier new found wealth.
The funding saved by the factions on military expenditures have allowed for the Reconstruction to flourish. Credits are seemingly created out of nowhere, and often spent on a contrived, manipulated demand for products a station simply does not need.
The history of the economic system as a motivator for pilot recruitment is tied closely to escape pod technology. It will be interesting to watch as TRI goes through growing pains in the years to come. Knowledge of the failings of the past and Hope for a better future is often all that drives us through the Trying times of the present. _________________ My sword belongs to my people.
